The National Library of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism opened the Korean Reference Room (WOK, Window On Korea) at The National University of Mongolia on Wednesday, June 12. The opening event was attended by Choi Jin-won, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia, Joo-ok Park, Director of the National Library, OCHIRKHUYAG Bayanjargal, President of the National University of Mongolia, Vice President GALBAYAR Gombosuren, and GANBAATAR Tseren Library. About 40 people, including Jang, attended.
Since 2007, the National Library of Korea has established Korean data rooms in major libraries in 28 countries including Asia, Europe, Central and South America, and the Middle East, and has provided approximately 130,000 volumes of Korea-related materials and original text databases, establishing a base for Korean studies research around the world and promoting Korean studies. We are working to spread culture.
The newly opened Korean Resource Center is the 35th, and has over 1,500 books (dots) including materials related to Korean history, culture, and language in an area of 50 m2. The National University of Mongolia opened the first Korean language department in Mongolia in 1991, and is currently operating courses in Korean studies, Korean language, and interpretation and translation in the Korean department.
Park Joo-ok, director of the National Library of Korea, said, “We are very pleased to provide national university students and researchers with the opportunity to further understand and research Korean culture and history through the establishment of this Korean studies archive.” He added, “We will continue to spread Korean studies globally.” “We will spare no effort in providing various support for this purpose,” he said.
